A proper business phone number, call summaries and quotes for UK tradespeople.

Electricians, plumbers, heating engineers, builders, roofers, landscapers and locksmiths all share the same problem: the phone rings while you are up a ladder, on a roof or under a boiler. Atom IP give tradespeople a separate business number that rings the mobile they already carry, captures what was actually said on the call, and — through QuoteMate — turns that conversation into a quote email or PDF while the customer still remembers ringing. No deskphone, no office, no contract you cannot leave.

What we hear from trades

The problems this sector actually has.

Not a generic technology pitch — the specific patterns we see in Trades every week.

Missed calls are missed jobs

A homeowner with a leak rings three numbers off Google. Whoever answers, or calls back first with a sensible price, gets the job. Voicemail does not win work.

Personal and business calls on one mobile

Customers ringing at 9pm on a Sunday. Suppliers, family and cold callers all mixed together. No way to tell who is who before you answer, and no way to switch off.

Details forgotten between call and quote

You agreed a rough price on the phone, the customer mentioned the boiler make, the access issue and the deadline — and by the time you sit down to quote on Thursday evening, half of it has gone.

Quotes take too long to send

The job is won or lost in the gap between the call and the written quote. If that gap is three days, the customer has already booked someone else.

Looking like a one-man band

A mobile number on a van and no proper voicemail greeting signals "small". A business number with a professional greeting, hold message and out-of-hours option signals "established".

Everything in one accountable partner

Phones, broadband and CCTV — designed as one system.

Most providers deliver these separately. In Trades, that's where the problems start. Under one team, everything is designed to work with everything else.

QuoteMate business number

A separate business number that turns calls into quotes.

A real engagement

How it plays out.

Anonymised, illustrative of the kind of Trades business we work with every month.

Case scenario

Typical deployment: two-van heating and plumbing business

Situation

Owner and one employed engineer, both working from vans. All enquiries land on the owner's personal mobile. Quotes written up on the laptop at the weekend from memory and scraps of paper. Regular complaints from the owner's family about work calls at all hours. Jobs lost to faster-quoting competitors.

Outcome

A single business number rings both mobiles in sequence, with a professional greeting and an out-of-hours message that promises a next-morning callback. Every enquiry is summarised automatically — property, fault described, urgency, budget mentioned. QuoteMate prepares a draft quote from the call for the owner to check and send the same evening. Business calls now clearly separated from personal ones, and the quote turnaround drops from days to hours.

Questions

Common questions from trades.

Do I need a new phone or a deskphone?

No. QuoteMate and our business phone plans work on the iPhone or Android you already carry. A business number rings through an app, and you can add a deskphone later if you ever open an office.

Can I keep my existing mobile number?

Yes. Your personal mobile stays exactly as it is. We add a separate business number on top, so customers ring the business line and you always know which is which.

How does QuoteMate produce a quote from a call?

The call is transcribed and summarised — job type, address, access notes and any prices discussed. QuoteMate then drafts a quote email or PDF using your pricing and wording. You check it, adjust anything you like and send it.

Is there a long contract?

No. QuoteMate is a monthly plan for sole traders and small businesses. Business phone system contracts for larger teams are agreed separately and explained clearly before you sign anything.
